Flip flops are the one type of shoe that you can slip on easily without having to worry about any buckles, straps, zippers or laces.

With that being said, grabbing for flip flops during the summer season seems reasonable until you really think about what the sandal is doing to your foot.

According to Dr. Zachary Vaupel who noted in an interview with ABC7 says “By definition, it’s kinda flopping off your foot, essentially.” In other words, flip flops provide no support!

In fact, the foot doctor lists several several potential cause for concerns including heel pain, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, stress fractures, and shin splints, ouch.

Alongside the potential pain and suffering, it’s also not uncommon to take a nasty spill while wearing our flip flops, while some have suffered broken bones, strains, and sprains according to Dr. Vaupel to ABC7.

Now if you can’t bring yourself to tossing your favorite sandal footwear, Dr. Vaupel shared a few trips and tricks to ABC7 you should keep in mind while wearing flip flops, if you must do so this summer season.

Number one being is to avoid any stairs, omit wearing the pair of sandals for a long period of time and finally, make sure that both of your flip flops are the exact same size as your feet!

So while you keep the dangers of flips flops in mind, try and make the colorful sandals the last pair of summer-wear you grab from the closet.
