According to Architectural Digest, Barbie’s movie set was covered from head to toe in pink paint to pay homage to the doll’s iconic color.

In a written email from Director Greta Gerwig to Architectural Digest, Gerwig had hired production designer Sarah Greenwood and set decorator Katie Spencer to design Barbie’s dream house.

Gerwig also insisted that everything on set, must be colored pink.

“I wanted the pinks to be very bright, and everything to be almost too much,” Greta Gerwig explained.

However, coloring nearly the entire set in pink caused an international shortage of the fluorescent shade of Rosco paint.

Can you believe it?

“The world ran out of pink,” she told Architectural Digest.

Gerwig also mentioned to AD that even the sky backdrop including the mountains were hand-painted too.
