‘Buttered Saltine Crackers’ Are The Hot New Snack Trend Everyone Is Talking About
Buttered Saltine Crackers are the snack trend everyone is talking about right now. They are an easy 2-ingredient snack that you can make in seconds!
Buttered Saltine Crackers
I am not going to lie, until a few weeks ago, I had no idea Buttered Saltines were a thing.
I guess it could be that I never really had grandparents in my life to teach me this!
Apparently, this has been a thing for many years and the majority of people I have talked to know about this easy snack and ate them as a kid.
However, some were just as confused as I am but I have to say, I’ve tried it and it is DELICIOUS.
Well, whether you’ve tried it or not, Buttered Saltine Crackers have made a comeback as an easy and tasty snack you make it just seconds! Seriously, you need to try these!
Oh, and while you are at it, give our Christmas Crack a try (you can enjoy it anytime of the year).
How to Make Buttered Saltine Crackers
Ingredients:
- Saltine Crackers
- Butter – I like the sweet cream butter
How to Make Them:
Start by softening your butter just enough to smear them onto the cracker. If you don’t, you risk breaking the cracker.
Using a butter knife, smear a thin piece of butter onto the top the cracker.
Eat and enjoy!
Now, some people have even said you can flip the cracker upside down so the salt side hits your tongue and the other side is covered in butter. That is also delicious.
You can even put these on a cookie sheet and bake them for a few minutes to make them warm and then apply the butter so it’s a bit melty.
I have to say, I am sad that I just learned this tasty snack but I am so glad I did!

This an old recipe my great-grandmother taught me & she always served this simple treat with a hearty bowl of chili.
I never knew about this either and just started eating this and can’t stop. So I can’t buy any crackers for now to contain myself. Thanks for the info. Not everyone grows up on the same recipes or know everything. My parents grew up in the 50s and have never heard of this either. You were very clear and concise about your discovery of this concoction. I’m surprised that people would get so angry over butter and crackers. Obviously they are transferring their anger from more seriously real life problems. Thanks again!
What a total waste of space crock. This was a common snack at least as far back as the 1950’s and probably before that decade.
Oh Lawd people!!!! Calm down!!! This was cute! Yes I grew up eating them too. I ran across this tonight after making them for my 3 year old granddaughter….she made a BIG deal out of it too! She’s had me in stitches eating them like they are the best thing since toast!!!🤣
This is not new. I did thas a kid in 70s. My.mom said she did it as a kid too. So it’s been around a long time
My family has always eaten buttered crackers with chili butter the cracker and put a spoonful of chili on it ….
My dad taught us that years ago!
Really needed a recipe for this?? Please post how to make toast next.
@Robert McCall, It’s a “hot new trend” doncha know? 🤣
This “new” trend is anything but new! I’m in my 60s and had this OFTEN growing up, and still do on occasion. The old saying DOES hold true here, though: “Everything old is new again.”
Wait until they find out you can put cheese on crackers as well. MIND BLOWn!
This is the most ridiculous “recipe” ever. Youngins’ obviously don’t cook anymore if they need instructions on how to butter a cracker. Personally, I’d rather have a slice of cheddar on a cracker. Maybe the kids will rediscover cheese next….
Wow… Ya’ll ran straight to the comments just to say this has “been a thing”. If you took a moment to ready, they already said, “I am not going to lie, until a few weeks ago, I had no idea Buttered Saltines were a thing. I guess it could be that I never really had grandparents in my life to teach me this!” So they are admitting it’s not new but new to them. Just like fashion trends go away and come back, food trends can too. I ate these growing up, and I’m 36. We did so because we were freaking poor. I eat them still till’ this day not because I’m poor, but because I love them. Thanks for reminding me I needed to eat some buttered crackers today. 🙂
Puerto Ricans have been doing this for decades. It’s not a”trend” you stupid c¿nt$.
Fight me.
Add a dollop of jam and you will go
Crazy
I’ve got to say, these are a staple in Australian children’s lunchboxes. Except we sandwich them together and use saladas crackers (same thing but different name). Sometimes my Mum would do Vegemite & butter (I am 30). I’m not sure what you’ve been using them for this whole time? Ours are marketed as an alternative to bread, so adults do cheese, ham, tomato & butter as well.
try sprinkling black pepper on it and a little more salt. also fun put some butter on white bread and sprinkle with sugar.
Hilarious! I’ve been eating buttered crackers since I was a small child. So it’s the “hot new trend”, huh?
You can also dip them in coffee. Just a quick dunk … warm enough to melt the butter fast enough not to make it soggy. Everyone has their own preference as to how to dip it in coffee but it elevates the experience for sure. & Yes, usually it’s the grandparents that teach it to us.
Not a new trend! We had these all the time when I was a kid back in the 80’s. Try putting some sugar on it, makes it even better!
Diet dessert= cherry jam on saltines. Imagine cherry pie while enjoying your treat. Mm-m.
@Carol, a baby food size container of applesauce, 2 saltines, sprinkle with cinnamon! Apple pie better than what came on the tray in the hospital
