I don’t know what I expected when I woke up this morning, but it wasn’t this.
A chicken stroller. An actual, functional, roll-it-down-the-sidewalk stroller — but for your chicken. And I have so many questions, starting with: why didn’t anyone tell me about this sooner?
I don’t even currently own a chicken. That’s where we are right now.
Wait, is a chicken stroller actually a real product?
One hundred percent real, fully purchasable, available on Amazon right now. These aren’t custom-built novelty items — they’re legit pet strollers that zip closed so your animal stays secure, can see out, gets fresh air, and doesn’t bolt into traffic. Which, honestly, is a feature I respect.
They look exactly like baby strollers. That’s the whole bit. You’re just pushing a stroller and inside is a chicken.

Do chickens actually like being strolled around?
Based on the evidence — and by evidence I mean the Instagram rabbit hole I fell down at 9am — some chickens are completely unbothered by this. Like, they’re just in there. Enjoying the scenery. Living their best life.
Mrsjenmcgowan on Instagram has documented the whole thing and it is genuinely one of the more joyful things I’ve seen on the internet in a while. Which is saying something, because the internet mostly makes me tired.
So who actually buys these?
Chicken owners, obviously. But also people with small dogs who don’t want to walk the whole route. Cat people who have an outdoor-curious cat and zero interest in losing that cat. Bird people — yes, birds can ride in these too. Basically anyone with a small animal and a complete disregard for what the neighbors think.
And honestly? Those people are winning. The neighbors staring? Jealous. Every single one of them.
What should you look for in a pet stroller?
The zippered mesh enclosure is the main thing — your animal needs to be able to breathe and look around without being able to escape. A chicken that can escape a stroller mid-walk is a problem nobody needs. Good strollers also have decent wheels for uneven sidewalks, a storage basket underneath (for, I don’t know, chicken snacks), and enough interior space that the animal isn’t crammed in.
The ones on Amazon run the range from budget-friendly to actually pretty sturdy. If you’re going to do this — and I fully think you should — get a real one.

Can I use this for something other than a chicken?
Yep. Small dogs, cats, rabbits, birds — if it fits in a stroller and you want to take it outside without the full chaos of a leash situation, this works. The whole thing started with chicken content going viral but these are just pet strollers. Versatile ones.
If you’re more of a chicken-on-a-leash purist, I’ve got you — check out my post on chicken harnesses for that whole universe. And if you want your bird looking absolutely unhinged in the best way, there’s also the chicken tutu situation which remains one of my favorite things I’ve ever covered on this blog.
Is this just a gimmick or is there actually a point?
Here’s the thing — chickens that are pets, not livestock, still need enrichment. Seeing the outside world, getting stimulation, experiencing things beyond the backyard. A stroller does that safely. Same for elderly small dogs who can’t do the whole walk but still want to be out in it.
So yeah, it looks funny. It IS funny. But it’s also kind of practical? I didn’t expect to come away from chicken stroller research with a genuine appreciation for the concept, but here we are. But what do I know.
I don’t own a chicken right now. Key word: right now.
But the neighbors who share my fence do, and I am absolutely going to propose a chicken stroller timeshare situation to them. Worst they can say is no. And then I’ll just get my own chicken.
This is how it starts.
