A tub of cookie dough, a piping bag of blue frosting, and suddenly Carol has a birthday cake. Okay, this is a very good argument for skipping the mixing bowl.
In a video from Liz & Jeff, a tub of Nestlé Toll House chocolate-chip cookie dough becomes one giant cookie, complete with a frosting border and colorful birthday letters. The finished cookie gets cut into wedges, so everybody gets an actual slice.
From cookie-dough tub to birthday cookie
The clip starts with the dough coming out of its tub onto a lined baking sheet. It goes into the oven as one big mound, then the video cuts to the baked cookie being decorated.
Bright blue frosting goes around the edge, followed by letters spelling out a birthday message for Carol. The last close-up shows a thick slice with chocolate chips through the middle and a generous frosting edge.
The decorating is the part to borrow even if you already have a favorite cookie recipe. Pick a frosting color, add the birthday person’s name, and you have a personalized dessert without having to write in icing. Those little letters are doing a lot of work.
Want to make a cookie cake with premade dough?
The reel does not give a baking temperature or time. Its caption recommends placing the dough flat side down for a more even bake, but it is not a complete recipe for baking an entire tub.
For directions with an actual dough quantity, Toll House has an official One Big Cookie recipe. That version uses one 16.5-ounce package of refrigerated chocolate-chip cookie bar dough, rather than a whole tub:
- Heat the oven to 325°F and grease a 10- to 12-inch pizza pan or a baking sheet.
- Let the dough soften on the pan for 5–10 minutes, then press it into an 8-inch circle.
- Bake for 18–20 minutes, until light golden brown.
- Leave it on the sheet for 10 minutes, then move it to a rack to cool completely before decorating.
Those measurements and times belong to Toll House’s flattened, 16.5-ounce version. They should not be applied to a larger tub-shaped mound.
Once it is cool, the blue border and birthday letters from the video would be a fun way to finish it. Sprinkles work, too, if spelling out everyone’s name sounds like one task too many.
