If you were excited about seeing Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Black Adam in the DCU, I have some news for you that is no bueno.

He has officially been released from the role, because James Gunn — DC studios co-CEO –is continuing to shake things up for the movie franchise.

Mr. Gunn already revealed that Henry Cavill would not be returning as Superman in the superhero franchise — a shock to many fans.

Now, Dwayne Johnson has released a statement explaining that he will no longer be playing Black Adam.

According to TheGamer.com, Johnson also unfollowed both Warner Bros. and Black Adam on Instagram.

Can’t really say I blame him.

He subsequently decided to turn down a cameo in Shazam 2. Good for him, right?!?

James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling.

However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters.

James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It’s no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and WIN BIG.

You guys know me, and I have a very thick skin – and you can always count on me to be direct with my words. These decisions made by James and DC leadership represent their vision of DCU through their creative lense.

This news totally supports the idea that James Gunn is planning to shake up the DCU in a big way.

I mean, it’s not too surprising since Henry Cavill was just dropped as the man of steel.

Black Adam also didn’t perform too well, so I guess it’s to be expected that they are dropping it for now.
