The white tent is open again, and there is one very noticeable change at the judges’ table.
The Great British Baking Show Collection 14 premieres September 25 on Netflix, with Nigella Lawson joining Paul Hollywood as a judge after Prue Leith stepped down earlier this year.
That is an extremely British sentence to type before breakfast, and I mean that as a compliment.
Nigella Lawson is replacing Prue Leith
Netflix says Leith left after nine seasons, and Lawson is joining Hollywood for the new collection. Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond are back as hosts.
Lawson said she was excited to join the team, while also acknowledging that following Prue Leith and Mary Berry is a fairly intimidating assignment. Honestly, walking into that tent knowing Paul Hollywood may stare silently at your pastry would be enough pressure already.
There are 12 new bakers
Collection 14 starts with 12 amateur bakers ranging in age from 21 to 67. Netflix’s lineup includes a marketing graduate, an NHS hospital discharge lead, a competitive sprinter, a pediatric doctor, a retiree, and an artist and drag king who describes himself as the “daddy of Birmingham drag.”
Over 10 weeks, the bakers will work through the familiar Signature, Technical, and Showstopper challenges while trying to avoid the weekly trip home without the cake stand.
New episodes arrive Fridays
Netflix says Collection 14 starts September 25, with a new episode arriving every Friday through the finale.
If you are the kind of person who needs one aggressively cozy thing in your week while the rest of the internet screams, I feel like this is a perfectly reasonable Friday appointment.
