The retailer also says it expanded its Pokémon assortment from 10 costumes last year to 26 this season, including Jigglypuff, and names Toy Story, Super Mario, Spider-Man and other Marvel heroes among the featured character options.
That is the useful signal here: when a major retailer builds out that many versions of a fandom, it is worth planning for multiple takes on the same idea at parties and trick-or-treating. If you want the recognizable costume, great. If you want to avoid showing up as the fourth version of the same character, this is your warning.
The family-costume lane is getting easier
Target describes its 2026 assortment as having options for the whole family. That makes a coordinated theme much easier than trying to build five compatible costumes from five unrelated stores.

Spirit Halloween says more than 1,550 stores are opening across North America for 2026. Its season announcement also introduces Camp Harbor Lake, an in-store experience at select locations inspired by campfire tales and ’80s horror.
The company’s 2026 lineup includes costumes tied to Spider-Man, Toy Story, Fortnite, horror franchises and Greek mythology, plus animatronics featuring Michael Myers and new monsters. In other words: this is the lane for people who want the costume itself to be the event.
The easiest costume strategy is not necessarily a full costume
If you are dressing an adult who is not interested in wearing a polyester jumpsuit for six hours, start with one unmistakable accessory. A wig, cape, mask or prop can carry a costume without turning the entire evening into an endurance test.
That also makes a last-minute group easier. Pick a shared world—witches, vampires, a fandom, food, construction cones if your friend group has given up entirely—and let everybody choose how committed they want to be.
What about kids?
Target’s official roundup specifically names Rumi from KPop Demon Hunters, Jigglypuff and characters from Toy Story, Super Mario and Marvel. Before buying, check the exact size chart and what is included. A product photo can make a costume look like it includes a wig, shoes or prop that is actually sold separately.
Comfort matters more for kids who are going to walk around the neighborhood. A spectacular costume that cannot fit over a layer when the weather turns cold is a spectacular costume that somebody will be furious about by house number six.
