And yes, this is actually real. In-N-Out COO Denny Warnick confirmed that the chain’s store managers earn more than $200,000 a year on average, according to FOX Business.
That is the average for store managers, not a starting salary for every person who gets promoted, which is an important little detail because the number flying around social media makes it sound like you can just stroll in, put on the paper hat and collect $200K.
Yes, the $200K In-N-Out manager salary is real
Warnick told FOX Business that In-N-Out’s founders believed in taking care of their associates and that paying higher-than-normal wages was part of that philosophy.
The company says it still focuses on competitive pay, benefits, career development and giving employees room to grow inside the company.
But you can’t just apply to be an In-N-Out store manager
Here is the part I find almost as wild as the salary.
According to In-N-Out’s own media kit, every In-N-Out manager started their career in an entry-level position with the company.
So this isn’t really a “quit your job and apply to be an In-N-Out manager tomorrow” situation. It is a work-your-way-up-through-the-company situation.
And apparently people really do stick around. In-N-Out says many of its associates have been with the company for decades, and the chain now has more than 44,000 associates across more than 400 locations.
Suddenly that little paper hat is looking pretty good
I know $200,000 is an average and I know becoming a store manager is clearly not something that happens overnight.
But still.
More than $200K a year. At In-N-Out.
I am absolutely going to think about this every single time I order Animal Style fries now.
