Temu may just be the hottest online shopping store of the year. And if you have yet to shop there, you may be wondering, Is Temu Legit?

As someone who has personally ordered from the Temu app several times, I will give my honest opinion on using the app, if it’s worth the money and if it lives up to the hype.

What is Temu?

Temu (Team Up, Price Down) is an app that offers affordable prices on a range of inexpensive consumer goods shipped directly from Chinese factories and warehouses. Think, basically a Dollar Store you can shop online with hundreds of items costing $0.25+.

The most popular items on Temu are the most cheapest items.

Is Temu Legit?

This question seems to be the big elephant in the room. And if by asking “Is Temu Legit?” you mean, do you actually get the stuff you order, then yes. Temu is legit.

I’ve personally ordered from Temu many times and have always received my order.

However, in order to decide whether or not you want to order from Temu or think it’s worth your time and money, I will share with you the pros and the cons of shopping at Temu.

The Pros of Temu

Let’s first discuss the pros of shopping the Temu app.

For starters, Temu is quite easy to just get started shopping. Simply download the Temu app from the app store and then sign-up and create a free account. You can also shop directly on the temu website without using the app.

Once you are logged in, you can begin to shop.

As you begin shopping and adding to your cart, you will notice that items often change prices. Sometimes they go on sale, and sometimes you’ll get bonus coupon offers such as $20 off $50 purchase.

Shipping is free on all orders and items are quite inexpensive with most items being no more than $30 (hundreds of items are way under this).

Also, although items are typically coming from China, shipping is quite fast. Typically you’ll receive your order within 7-10 business days. You also receive tracking and are offered credits if your order doesn’t arrive on time.

When ordering items, if you receive a damaged or missing item, it’s easy to request a refund within the app. You can receive immediate Temu credit or request a refund to your original payment method.

They also offer free returns if you don’t like an item.

There are a ton of ways to earn free products including sharing your referral link with friends and family. You can also complete tasks like playing games and making purchases to earn credits to redeem for free products.

Recap of pros:

  • Temu is easy to use
  • Prices change regularly and go on sale
  • Coupons are offered on top of low prices
  • Free Shipping
  • Items are typically delivered within 7-10 days
  • Can earn free stuff for referrals

The Cons of Temu

Just like with anything, Temu has some cons when it comes to shopping their app.

For starters, because items are quite cheap, don’t expect the product quality to be super high quality. I will say, you get what you pay for but in some instances, you will be genuinely surprised at how good the quality is.

The app notifications are overwhelming. I had to turn off my Temu app notifications and emails because I was being bombarded with offers and emails telling me to complete my purchases. It was overkill.

Items are also thrown together in a large sack and shipped. This means, it’s quite likely that some more fragile items will come damaged. Sure, you can get a refund or Temu credit but it sucks to be excited to receive something only to have it arrived damaged.

I ordered some solar lights off Temu that were also listed on Amazon for double the price and they came completely broken and smashed. I got a refund but I was sad I couldn’t use them.

Some listings are deceiving so pay attention to temu reviews. I have found that any of the clothes I’ve ordered off Temu are nothing like the picture. The material, design and fit are completely off from the images and description and are a waste of money.

My best tip here is – stay away from buying clothes and read reviews prior to buying an item.

Also, some items like gnomes for example, look much bigger in pictures but when you receive them, they are tiny. So, don’t just go off pictures, read the actual dimensions and descriptions too.

Customer service is hard to reach but it isn’t impossible. In some cases, if you really hate your order, you can get a full refund by contacting customer service via chat.

I’ve also heard of some people being worried about data privacy concerns. People believe Temu may be collecting your data and selling it to China.

The reason is because, Temu’s parent company is PDD Holdings and was caught doing this before. Therefore, people believe they’d do it again.

There is a fantastic video on the topic below and it’s worth a watch.

Recap of cons ordering from Temu:

  • You get what you pay for
  • Items often arrived damaged or missing
  • Items are cheaply made
  • Clothing is not worth the price
  • Inaccurate website photos and/or descriptions
  • Concerns over data privacy when using the app

Overall, Temu is a legitimate company that offers unbeatable prices on thousands of items to American consumers. However, you need to be careful with what you are ordering and keep in mind that your data may be used without your permission or knowledge when using this shopping app.

If you do plan to give temu a try, start with a small order and go from there.
