Jimmy John’s has two toasted BBQ brisket sandwiches on the menu, and the difference is more than swapping one barbecue sauce for another.
The Hickory Brown Sugar BBQ Brisket gets crispy onions. The Sweet & Spicy BBQ Brisket gets onions and Jimmy Peppers. Both start with brisket, cheddar, lettuce and mayo on toasted French bread.
So the decision is really crispy onions versus peppers, with a different Sweet Baby Ray’s sauce going on each.
Hickory Brown Sugar is the crispy-onion option
According to Jimmy John’s official lineup announcement, this version combines mesquite-smoked brisket with Sweet Baby Ray’s Hickory & Brown Sugar Barbecue Sauce, cheddar cheese, crispy onions, lettuce and mayo.
If the crunchy onion topping is usually your favorite part of a barbecue sandwich, this is the one to start with. The named sauce also makes the sweet-and-smoky direction pretty clear.
Sweet & Spicy adds Jimmy Peppers
The second sandwich uses Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet ’n Spicy Barbecue Sauce with brisket, cheddar, onions, Jimmy Peppers, lettuce and mayo.
The announcement does not provide a heat rating. The peppers are the useful clue if you are choosing between the two.
You can also order them as a Fan Feast
The sandwiches launched September 14 and are a limited-time option at participating locations nationwide. Jimmy John’s is still featuring both on its current menu homepage.
They are also offered in the Fan Feast, which the brand describes as a sandwich, chips, dessert and a pickle spear. A drink is not included in that published list, so check your order rather than assuming it comes with one.
The announcement does not give a nationwide price or an end date. Check your participating store’s menu for current pricing and availability before making the trip.
