I love a Halloween makeup idea that comes with a little help. Drawing an entire animal print on my face freehand sounds like the part of getting ready that could take over the whole evening.
NYX has a $12 Party Animals Stencils Kit with zebra, tiger, cheetah and deer patterns. It is part of the brand’s limited-edition Halloween collection, and the reusable stencils give you a guide for placing the prints.
Four prints, with room to make the costume your own
The NYX product description names four animal prints: zebra, tiger, cheetah and deer. The patterns include stripes and spots in different sizes, as you can see on the pink stencil sheets.
I can picture using one small section near a cheekbone instead of committing to a full-face look. Add an outfit you already have and a pair of animal ears, and the makeup can be the detail that pulls the costume together. That is a styling idea, not a finished look I’ve tested.
The application tip is to dab, not sweep
NYX’s instructions say to hold the stencil flat against the skin and apply a small amount of makeup with a sponge, brush or finger. Dab over the openings rather than sweeping across them, then lift the stencil straight up.
The brand also recommends cleaning up edges with a cotton swab if needed and leaving the design untouched for one to two minutes, or until it sets. The stencil is a guide; your makeup choice and application still matter.

I haven’t used these stencils, so I can’t promise perfectly crisp edges or an all-night result. I do like the idea of having an outline to work with, especially if the alternative is drawing matching stripes while everyone else is waiting by the door.
