Do you love Starbucks as much as I do? If so, you are going to want to know about this!!

Starbucks Is Launching A Reusable Cup Program. Here’s How it Works.

In the past, Starbucks had reusable cups that you could bring in, fill up and save on your coffee purchases but with the pandemic, that was done away with.

Now Starbucks has a plan to reintroduce something like that but on a larger scale.

The idea is that offering a reusable cup program where you order, sip, return and repeat will help reduce our carbon footprint.

Starbucks announced a new two-month borrow-and-return trial program launching at five Seattle store locations that will allow customers to order a beverage in a reusable cup, which will replace the use of up to 30 disposable cups.

If all goes well, they may expand it to more locations.

How The Starbucks Reusable Cup Program Works

  1. You will order your drink in a reusable cup and pay a deposit.

Customers can order any beverage that will come in the newly designed reusable cup in-person at a participating Starbucks café or drive-thru. If a customer wants their drink in a reusable cup, they tell the barista and pay a $1 refundable deposit.

2. Return the cup and receive a credit and bonus stars.

After the customer is finished with the drink, they scan their cup at a contactless return kiosk, which will be located in the lobby or drive-thru at participating locations, and drop the cup in the designated opening. After that, simply scan their Starbucks App to have the $1 credit and 10 Bonus Stars applied to their account.

So, you basically get your $1 deposit back + bonus stars for returning the cup.

3. Each cup is cleaned and sterilized.

Starbucks has partnered with GO Box, a reuse system operator and service provider, to collect borrowed cups from stores daily that are then professionally cleaned and sanitized with commercial-grade dishwashing equipment, and put back into circulation within 48 hours.

4. You repeat the process.

Easy, enough, right?

I mean, even if you get a daily Starbucks coffee, this program can help you obtain 50-70 bonus stars a week in addition to any you’d already receive.

I also love how they are thinking of ways to help the environment from their new cup design (straw-less) to this.
