Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation Are Permanently Closing Their Doors And It Makes Me So Sad
We have another casualty of the pandemic, and this one hurts. Ouch!
Sweet Tomatoes — known as Souplantation in Southern California — is closing all of their 97 locations across the nation, and it’s a permanent closure.
Can I just tell you, EVERY time we go to Disney World, we finish our trip with a visit to the Sweet Tomatoes location right outside of Disney Property. Not anymore. *Boo*
If you aren’t familiar with Sweet Tomatoes — first of all, I’m so sorry — it’s a buffet-style restaurant that has pastas, soups, breads, potatoes, salads, and desserts. It is so fresh and so good.
Or I guess I should say “It WAS so good.” This makes me incredibly sad. I can’t believe we are never going to get to enjoy this restaurant again. I hate that for us, and I hate that for them!
More than 4,000 employees are going to be affected by this closure, and it’s coming at a horrible time, when business are closing left and right. I’m sorry to say, it might be hard to find immediate employment. It is definitely a challenging time for everyone.
As you may have heard, we are unable to reopen our 97 Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes restaurants due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The outpouring of love on social media has been overwhelming and we are so grateful to all of the sweet memories you have shared with us. We would like to thank our 4,400 team members for their dedication and love they have shown to our local communities.
Sweet Tomatoes Company Statement
The company had been in business more than 40 years, and it is such a shame to see it go in this way!
Sweet Tomatoes is among a handful of businesses that are shutting their doors. The present situation is affecting many retailers in a negative way. Pier 1, Tuesday Morning, and Bath and Body Works have all announced they are either closing partially or totally.
