Adam had not been the name everybody was talking about going into the tribute, which made seeing him show up in the middle of it feel like one of those very specific awards-show surprises that immediately wakes the room up.

CBS and MTV had announced RAYE, SOMBR and Teddy Swims for the George Michael tribute ahead of the show.
The tribute comes 40 years after Michael’s career-defining Faith era and ahead of new Faith Tour releases tied to the anniversary.
Then Adam Lambert appeared
Rolling Stone confirmed that Adam Lambert joined the tribute alongside RAYE, SOMBR and Teddy Swims.
And honestly, if you are going to surprise-drop another vocalist into a George Michael tribute, Adam Lambert is a pretty wild way to do it.
He has the kind of voice that can actually survive being placed next to songs people know this well.
