If an Amazon return turned into a missing refund, a late refund or a charge that came back after you thought it was handled, there’s a settlement worth checking. The important part is figuring out whether you need to file a claim. Some eligible customers don’t. Others could miss a payment if they do nothing.

The official Amazon Return Policy Litigation settlement website lists December 1, 2026, as the claim deadline. This case concerns physical-product returns and refunds. It’s separate from the Amazon Prime subscription settlement, which has its own eligibility rules.

Who the returns settlement covers

According to the settlement administrator’s eligibility explanation, the class covers certain physical products sold through Amazon.com from September 5, 2017, through February 12, 2026, and received in the United States according to Amazon’s records. The customer must have started a return or requested a refund and experienced one of the covered problems:

  • An incorrectly missing refund, an untimely refund or an incorrect refund.
  • A refund followed by an incorrect charge for the returned product.

Buying something from Amazon during that window isn’t enough by itself. The return or refund problem matters, and the settlement also has exclusions. Check your notice and the administrator’s full eligibility information rather than assuming every old order qualifies.

The A-versus-B distinction matters

The administrator says Subclass A members don’t need to submit a claim form to receive a settlement payment. Subclass B members do need to submit an eligible claim by December 1.

If you don’t know which group applies to you, the settlement administrator lists 1-888-553-4246 for questions. Start at the official website for the claim form and instructions. Keep your order, return and refund records available for the details the form requests.

When would the money arrive?

There isn’t a guaranteed payment date or one promised dollar amount for every shopper. The court still has to grant final approval, and the settlement must become final before payments can go out. The approval hearing is scheduled for March 16, 2027, at 10 a.m. Pacific.

The official notice and settlement documents also explain the December 1 deadlines for objections and exclusion, along with the legal rights affected by staying in the settlement. Read those choices before deciding what to do. The case resolves allegations about Amazon’s return practices; Amazon denies wrongdoing, and the court hasn’t found it liable.
