Dinner with a view of Magic Kingdom fireworks sounds like a very good reason to retire the park-day sneakers for an evening. The part I would check before getting attached to the idea? The actual dinner total.
California Grill, on the 15th floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, currently lists a three-course dinner at $99 for ages 10 and up and $42 for ages 3–9, before tax and gratuity. That puts this firmly in the “plan the evening around it” category for me.
Start with the people at your table
Disney’s official restaurant page describes the meal as one appetizer, one entrée and one dessert. Using its September 18 listed prices, here is the food-only starting point:
| Your group | Before tax, gratuity and extras |
|---|---|
| Two guests ages 10+ | $198 |
| Two ages 10+ and two children ages 3–9 | $282 |
| Four guests ages 10+ | $396 |
The age cutoff matters. A family with two teenagers falls into that $396 example, not the child-price example. Wine pairings and other additions can raise the bill, so these are starting totals, not estimates of what the final receipt will say.
I would settle that number before debating appetizers. “Dinner with fireworks” is a lot more relaxing when everyone agreed on the dinner budget.
Your dinner does not have to end at showtime
Disney’s September 4 dining feature says California Grill dining includes fireworks viewing, weather permitting. It also says diners who finish before the show can return to the restaurant to watch Happily Ever After.
That is useful if the reservation you find is earlier than the fireworks. Confirm the return arrangements with the restaurant that evening and check the actual park entertainment schedule; dinner time and showtime are two different things to put on your calendar.
Disney notes that fireworks can change or be canceled for weather. I would choose this because I want the dinner, too—not make the whole price feel worthwhile only if the sky cooperates.
Leave time to get upstairs
Check-in is on the Contemporary’s second floor, followed by an escorted elevator ride to the restaurant. The published dress guidance calls for clean, neat clothing suited to the upscale setting and excludes swimwear.
Advance reservations are recommended. Read the cancellation and modification terms shown with your booking so a changed park plan does not become a surprise fee.
