If you have Sierra Nevada Graziers raw-milk cheese in the refrigerator, check the freezer, too. The company has recalled its listed raw-milk cheeses nationwide, and the recall is not limited to one lot number or best-by date.

The company notice posted by the FDA on September 29, 2026 covers Monterey Jack, Jalapeño Jack, Medium Cheddar and Sharp Cheddar because of possible E. coli O26:H11 contamination. Do not eat or serve recalled cheese. Return it to the place of purchase for a refund or throw it away.

The recalled retail packages listed in the notice are:

  • Monterey Jack, 8-ounce square: UPC 6-87652-16400-9.
  • Jalapeño Jack, 8-ounce square: UPC 6-87652-16403-0.
  • Medium Cheddar, 8-ounce square: UPC 6-87652-16506-8.
  • Sharp Cheddar, 8-ounce square: UPC 6-87652-16507-5.
  • Medium Cheddar, 16-ounce brick: UPC 6-87652-16501-3.

The recall also includes listed 5-pound loaves and 40-pound cheddar blocks used by wholesale and food-service customers. The company says investigators have not narrowed the issue to a specific lot, date code or production date, so a different date on one of the listed products is not a reason to assume it is unaffected.

What if you already threw away the wrapper?

The FDA advises checking both refrigerators and freezers. If stored cheese has lost its original packaging and you cannot tell whether it is included, throw it away. Clean and sanitize containers and surfaces that touched recalled cheese.

In its September 25 outbreak update, the FDA reported 13 illnesses, eight hospitalizations and no deaths across nine states, including Colorado. The investigation is ongoing.

When to get medical help

The FDA lists severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea and vomiting among possible E. coli symptoms. If you ate recalled cheese and develop symptoms, contact your healthcare provider promptly.
