Some people want their Halloween yard to look like a crime scene. I would like to submit a golden retriever wearing a witch hat and sitting inside a smiling pumpkin.

- For cat people: a crouching black cat, 3.5 feet wide, with a purple hat and a spider dangling from its curled tail.
- For a matching pair: two 3.5-foot ghosts, one wearing a witch hat and the other wearing a purple bow and holding a heart-shaped pumpkin.
- For a taller centerpiece: a 7-foot haunted tree with a green face, hanging spider and two pumpkins at its base.
The cat measurement is width; the others are listed by height. That matters when you are deciding what actually fits beside the steps. A shorter-looking decoration can still take up a surprisingly wide patch of yard.
Check your space before you choose
Measure the full spot you want to use, including room around the base and the route people take to your door. For a covered porch, check overhead clearance too. The tallest option is not automatically the best one for your house.
