An aura reading is a spiritual interpretation session, not a hidden-information scan.

Depending on the reader, the session may involve observing colors around you, using intuition, working from an aura photograph, or talking through symbolic themes connected with color and energy.

The useful version is reflective. The sketchy version is when somebody starts treating the reading like proof of your health, your future, or another person’s private thoughts.

If you want the basic definition first, start with what an aura is in modern spiritual practice.

What happens during an aura reading?

There is no universal procedure.

A reader may ask you to sit quietly while they observe or sense the field they believe surrounds you. Others use a photo and interpret the colors afterward. Some readings are basically guided conversations built around color symbolism and what the reader says they notice.

Modern aura traditions commonly connect colors with themes such as energy, creativity, confidence, compassion, communication, and intuition.

What kinds of things does an aura reader interpret?

Depending on the practitioner, they may talk about:

  • a dominant color
  • multiple colors appearing together
  • brightness or intensity
  • where a color seems concentrated
  • whether the aura seems to shift during the session
  • symbolic links between aura colors and chakras

Those interpretations are part of the spiritual framework. They are not objective lab measurements.

Can you read your own aura?

Some spiritual guides suggest trying to see color by softening your gaze around your hand or body against a plain background.

If you see a glow or edge effect, that experience may feel meaningful. It is also important to know that ordinary vision can produce lingering or reversed-color effects. Cleveland Clinic explains that physiological afterimages can appear after staring at something for a short time and may show complementary colors.

So: notice the experience. Do not turn it into proof you unlocked a new medical imaging modality in your bathroom mirror.

What should you ask during an aura reading?

Good questions keep the reading centered on reflection:

  • What theme does this color traditionally symbolize?
  • What part of that interpretation resonates with me?
  • Is there another way to interpret this color?
  • How much do aura meanings vary between readers?
  • What can I use as a journaling prompt after this?

Be cautious with claims that a reading can definitively tell you whether someone loves you, whether you are sick, whether a specific future event will happen, or whether another person is “good” or “bad.”

Is an aura reading the same as aura photography?

No.

An aura reading is the interpretive practice. Aura photography is one possible visual tool used in some sessions. A photo does not make the interpretation scientifically validated.

What should you do with the reading afterward?

Keep what gives you a useful question. Drop what does not fit.

If “blue means communication” makes you realize you have been avoiding a conversation, great. You still have to decide what to say. The color does not get to send the text for you.

The short version

An aura reading is a spiritual interpretation of colors, sensations, or imagery believed to relate to an energy field around a person. Treat it as reflection, not diagnosis, mind-reading, or proof of hidden facts.
