Oh Marie, welcome to the darkside of parenting. We have stained shirts, bags under our eyes and most importantly, messy, unorganized houses.

Back in 2019, it seemed everyone was wanting to declutter and get organized especially after Marie Kondo’s Tidying Up show aired on Netflix.

Well, if you’ve been wondering what Marie has been up to, well, it’s not exactly staying organized like she was…

During a recent event, Marie Kondo admitted she isn’t as tidy as she used to be.

The reason? Kids!

“Up until now, I was a professional tidier, so I did my best to keep my home tidy at all times,”

“I have kind of given up on that in a good way for me. Now I realize what is important to me is enjoying spending time with my children at home.”

After having kids she realized that is was a difficult task to constantly keep up the housework especially at her level of expertise.

Marie Kondo went onto explaining that, after having her third child, her hands have been too full to tidy things up as much as she used to.

“My home is messy, but the way I am spending my time is the right way for me at this time at this stage of my life,” she said, as reported by WaPo.

This exact premise is the idea behind her latest book, “Marie Kondo’s Kurashi at Home: How to Organize Your Space and Achieve Your Ideal Life,” which hit shelves in November.

This book focuses on the Japanese concept of kurashi, which is loosely translated as “way of life” or “the ideal way of spending our time.”

Basically, it’s still choosing things that “spark joy” but this time it’s more about decluttering what’s filling up your time, rather than what’s crowding your closet.

And you know, I don’t hate that concept at all and I love how realistic she is. Like, she went and had a family and instead of focusing on an organized house, she changed her idea of what ‘sparked joy’.

Honestly, good for her!

And welcome to the side of parenting Marie. We are right here with you!
