McDonald’s MONOPOLY is coming back on October 6, and apparently an Egg McMuffin could lead to a shot at a Jeep.
This year you can peel for free food and McDonald’s Rewards points, obviously.
But you can also potentially win a 2027 Jeep Cherokee, a Carnival cruise, free McDonald’s for a year and — because subtlety has left the building — $1 million.
Honestly, a possible Jeep from a game piece on breakfast feels appropriately ridiculous.
When does McDonald’s MONOPOLY start in 2026?
McDonald’s official MONOPOLY site says the game starts October 6, 2026 and runs for a limited time at participating U.S. restaurants.
The official rules say game pieces are available beginning October 6 through November 1, while supplies last. The Chance Card portion can continue through November 8, and prize claims have their own deadlines.
So yes, this is absolutely going to turn otherwise reasonable adults into people inspecting discarded fry boxes for Boardwalk.
The classic peel is back, but now you scan everything
The 2026 version is actually simpler than last year’s setup.
McDonald’s says the physical peel is the star again: eligible food comes with a game piece on the packaging. You peel it, then scan the piece in the McDonald’s app to redeem or play.
That means you will need the app, you need to opt into MyMcDonald’s Rewards, and you need to register for the MONOPOLY game.
There are four basic ways a piece can pay off.
You can win free McDonald’s food immediately
Some pieces are instant food winners.
McDonald’s lists possible freebies including the McChicken, Snack Wrap, McGriddles, shakes, smoothies and small fries.
Honestly, this is the level of gambling I am emotionally equipped for. Give me my free fries and tell me I did a wonderful job.
You can also peel Rewards points
Other instant-win pieces award 1,500 to 7,000 MyMcDonald’s Rewards points.
Those go into the same rewards system you already use in the McDonald’s app.
Then we get to the ridiculous prizes
The Collect to Win portion is where MONOPOLY starts behaving like MONOPOLY.
McDonald’s says property combinations can lead to prizes including Carnival cruise vacations, trips for four to Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, a choice of Polaris vehicles and 2027 Jeep Cherokee prizes.
And then there is the Chance Card game.
Those prizes include Grubhub, Uber Eats and Ulta gift cards, McDonald’s for a year (awarded as one $1,040 McDonald’s gift card, equivalent to $20 a week), more Jeeps, cash prizes and some extremely adult prizes that feel like they were chosen by somebody who has recently looked at a mortgage payment.
There are also three prizes of $50,000 toward a home down payment and three prizes of $50,000 toward college debt paydown.
Those are objectively huge prizes. But if you are asking what I am emotionally rooting for? Give me the Jeep. Or send me to Kennedy Space Center. Or put me on a Carnival cruise. Heck, McDonald’s for a year is so funny that I would happily accept the bit.
Yes, the $1 million prize is real — but read the fine print
The top cash prize is advertised at $1 million.
But this is where we read the rules before mentally spending it.
McDonald’s says the $1 million prize is paid as $50,000 per year for 20 years, with no interest. It is not a $1 million check dropped into your bank account on Tuesday.
Still: I would take the phone call.
Which McDonald’s items get MONOPOLY pieces?
The eligible menu stretches across breakfast, lunch and dinner.
McDonald’s specifically calls out things like the Quarter Pounder with Cheese, Egg McMuffin, large fries and large hot and cold drinks, with additional eligible items included in the promotion.
The easiest move will be checking the MONOPOLY menu in the McDonald’s app once the game begins.
There’s also a bonus play if you register before ordering
This is the part I would actually remember before October 6.
McDonald’s says registered players can get a bonus Chance Card play for each eligible item bought through the app or while using their Rewards code at the kiosk, counter or drive-thru through November 1.
But you have to register for the game before ordering to get that bonus play.
So do not eat the fries and then suddenly discover your inner strategic genius.
You do not technically have to buy anything to enter
The official rules also include a no-purchase mail-in route for requesting a game piece.
There are deadlines and specific mailing instructions, so if that is the route you want, use the official game rules rather than a screenshot floating around Facebook. The promotion is open to eligible residents of the 50 United States and Washington, D.C., age 18 or older. A purchase does not improve your chances of winning.
McDonald’s MONOPOLY is basically nostalgia with a scanner now
I get why McDonald’s keeps bringing this thing back.
There is something deeply satisfying about peeling the sticker even when it reveals that you have won approximately one small fry.
And this year’s version keeps the part everybody remembers — the peel — while putting the actual tracking and redemption in the app.
McDonald’s MONOPOLY starts October 6.
So if I order an Egg McMuffin and somehow end up with a 2027 Jeep Cherokee, I am going to talk about that game piece forever.
