People Say Netflix’s ‘The Hole In The Ground’ Will Make You Sleep With The Lights On
Netflix has a new streaming horror movie. It’s called The Hole In The Ground, and I’m going to have to sleep with my lights on tonight.
Anytime you see this lovely little A24 attached to a film, you KNOW it’s going to mess you up pretty good (bad?). They have previously given us such gems as The Monster, Enemy, Tusk, and The Killing Of A Sacred Deer.
So, let’s talk about The Hole In the Ground. This is Sarah. She lives alone with her son Chris, who is a normal little boy — for NOW, at least.
This is Sarah’s son, Chris — kind of.
One night, he takes off into the woods. It’s a whole thing, and it’s completely creepy AF, as you would guess.
When he comes back, he has — shall we say — changed. The changes are subtle at first, but they are enough to concern his mom.
Sarah can sense Chris isn’t quite right after his foray into the terrifying woods.
The next day, while out taking a drive in their car, Chris and Sarah nearly hit this lady — Noreen.
She tries to tell Sarah that this child is not really her boy.
I mean, she REALLY wants Sarah to know this isn’t her child.
She even head butts the window to get Sarah’s attention. That’s not creepy at all.
Turns out, Noreen’s own son developed this mysterious change, and she wants to warn Sarah that there is danger.
It’s right about this point in the movie, that I wanted to turn it off. Hard pass. But, I persisted on for the sake of this post.
This might seem like an innocent enough shot, but check out Chris’ reflection in the mirror. Noreen warned that the boy’s reflection in mirrors would be weird. This is definitely NOT the Chris that Sarah knows and loves.
So, things just get more and more weird. Sarah sees Chris contort like a demon, watches through a keyhole as he eats a spider, and sees him mumbling to himself.
So, SPOILER, Noreen ends up dead, with her head buried in the ground — the rest of her body left out to be eaten by birds.
A bunch of stuff happens, but then Chris tries to kill Sarah, burying her head in the ground.
Here is where I tell you, you’re going to have to watch the rest, and tell me what happens. I didn’t make it past this part. I turned off the TV, flipped on every light in my house, made the sign of the cross across my body, and curled up under my covers and cried.
Watch the trailer for this terrifying movie, and decide for yourself whether you are going to watch the whole movie.
While you’re watching scary Netflix movies, check out Eli — or don’t. They say it makes you see demons. You have been warned.
