The one downfall about the summer season being right around the corner is that with the summer heat also comes the spiders, flies, ants, and mosquitoes.

If you can’t stand those pesky little critters or mosquitoes who think you’re some type of fancy dessert considering you just found 8 bug bites in the last hour, there are other alternatives.

Did you know that there are a handful of plants, essential oils, and even brands of catnip that can get rid of bugs for a less stressful summer; starting with Rosemary that you may have sitting on your windowsill.

Rosemary is not only great for cooking, but it also keeps the ticks and fleas away.

Peppermint Oil can be used for shooing away spiders, mosquitoes, and ants; so having a bottle of that essential oil handy in the house is critical!

However, if you don’t like the smell of peppermint, catnip also does the trick and if you don’t have a cat, it’s totally normal to keep a spare bag handy because who wants to get bit, not I!

Marigolds are a summertime favorite among many individuals who like to show off their green thumb as soon as it gets warm outside, but other than their colorful petals, the pretty plant also scurries away mosquitoes and aphids.

Similar to Rosemary, Basil is another cooking spice that can add flavor to your pasta but can also stand as a guard between mosquitos, houseflies, and your house.

Lastly, lavender is another summertime hack that keeps several bugs away at once and no, I’m not talking about the lavender bath bombs you use to relax on a Saturday night with a glass of wine.

The plant itself or a spray bottle of lavender essential oil will do the trick to keep away moths, fleas, flies, and mosquitos.
