Sweetgreen put blackberry and basil in a drink, and honestly, that is a much more interesting lunch add-on than another bottle of water.

In an October 20 announcement shared with Totally The Bomb, Sweetgreen introduced two new housemade drinks, two refreshed recipes and a bigger cup. The detail worth catching before you choose: the new Tropical Black Tea has no sweetener, while the other three drinks use agave.

Two flavors are new. Two familiar drinks got a recipe refresh.

Fresh Blackberry Basil is one of the newcomers. Sweetgreen describes it as blackberry with fresh basil, which makes this the pick to investigate if a fruit-and-herb drink sounds more appealing than plain lemonade.

The other new option is Tropical Black Tea. The brand describes tropical fruit and toasted-coconut notes, and this is the one it says contains no sweetener.

That distinction matters. The other three drinks use agave. “Made with fruit” and “unsweetened” are not interchangeable descriptions, so the tea is the clear starting point if you specifically want to skip added sweetener.

Signature Lemonade is staying in the lineup with an updated recipe.

Ginger Greens is also getting a refresh. It combines apple, spinach and ginger. Sweetgreen says it made the drinks slightly less sweet so the ingredients come through more.

There is a new 24-ounce size, too

The existing 16-ounce option now has a 24-ounce companion. That is eight more ounces of cup capacity, or a 50% larger size.

Bigger does not automatically mean a better deal, though. The announcement does not list a national price, so compare the two sizes on your own restaurant’s menu rather than assuming the upgrade costs the same everywhere.

Check your restaurant before making the trip

Sweetgreen says the drinks are made in its kitchens with fruit, vegetables and fresh herbs. Head to Sweetgreen’s website and choose your restaurant to check the current drinks menu.

Check the flavors, sizes and prices available at that location before making a special trip. The announcement doesn’t replace a look at your restaurant’s menu.

Blackberry basil is the attention-getter here. But for anyone who usually passes on the lunch drink because everything sounds sweet, that unsweetened tea may be the more useful news.
