Put this turkey on the dessert table. Duff Goldman’s Lady Showbird has browned “skin,” little drumsticks and a garnish-covered platter, but a slice reveals pumpkin cake instead of white meat.
Goldman and his Charm City Cakes team make the limited-edition Goldbelly exclusive with pumpkin cake, vanilla buttercream and cranberry filling.
What does the turkey cake cost?
As of November 7, Goldbelly lists Lady Showbird at $269.95. It weighs approximately five pounds and serves 10 to 12 people.
The photos show a very convincing roast bird until you get to the cut face. Inside are orange cake layers separated by white buttercream and red cranberry filling. It also arrives in a striped gift box, so the presentation starts before anyone gets a slice.
Leave time for thawing
This is a shipped dessert, so it needs some planning before dinner. Goldbelly says the cake ships frozen with dry ice. Its instructions call for thawing the unwrapped cake in the refrigerator for 8 to 24 hours, then taking it out 1 to 2 hours before serving.
Check the instructions supplied with your cake, and leave room in the fridge. It is not a dessert to unpack just as everyone sits down.
Where to order it
You can order Lady Showbird through Goldbelly.
Confirm the current price, availability and arrival options for your address before ordering. Leave enough time for the cake to arrive and thaw before you need to serve it.
