This recipe for Easy Homemade Candy Apples combines fresh apples, sugar, corn syrup and red food coloring to make fall’s favorite homemade treat!

I used to think that candy apples were too hard to make so I’d find myself buying them for twice the amount that I could make them homemade.

But recently, I figured out that I was so WRONG.

Candy apples are NOT hard to make and honestly, I think they turn out and even taste better when homemade fresh in your kitchen.

Don’t believe me?

Give this recipe for candy apples a try and then try to convince yourself otherwise.

I will say that there are a few tricks to making the perfect candy apple and I’ve included those below.

Candy Apple Preparation Tips:

  1. It is important the apples are 100% dry before coating them.
  2. Making the candy coating is a slow process, be patient and stay nearby! Things move VERY quickly towards the end.
  3. If you don’t have a candy thermometer, you can make a pretty close guess to when the candy is done cooking when a spoon forms a thin thread when being lifted from the mixture. If it pours off easily, it’s not done.
  4. I used about ½ tsp of red gel coloring to get this shade.
  5. If the candy mixture sets too quick while dipping, place the mixture back onto heat to re-melt.
  6. I used sticks from outside for these! To make them yourself, gather 6 sticks about twice the height of the apples you are using. Wash them and allow to dry overnight. Using modge podge, coat the top half of each stick and apply glitter. Seal in place with a second coat.
  7. To easily clean your pans after this recipe, add water to the empty pan and bring to a boil. This will make it easier to clean the candy off!

  1. I had problems with my apples oozing juice from where the stick is inserted. What do you suggest for that. My caramel was good, my chocolate was good, my candy dip was good, but all oozed juice near the stick and ruined the caramel, the choc and the candy.

    1. @Lp, Make sure where you inserted the stick is completely covered with the coating
