Science Says There’s Actually A Right Way To Eat An Oreo Cookie And This Is It

Did you know there is actually an official way to eat an Oreo Cookie?

Trevor Raab

I. Love. Oreo. Cookies.

It doesn’t even matter which flavor — Original, Carrot Cake, Tiramisu, Brookie, Double Stuff, Chocolate Marshmallow, Strawberry Frosted Donut.

Nabisco

Bruh, you stick a bag of Oreos in front of me, and you can pretty much guarantee I’ll finish those bad boys off.

It may take me two days, but I won’t be sharing that bag, and it will be finished.

I have tried them every which way — dunking them in milk, shoving the whole thing in my face, using a fork to stab the filling and then dunking it in milk, and the famous twist and lick method.

But, did you know there is actually a scientific way that the OREO company suggests eating them?

Plain and simple is the best, as far as they are concerned.

The twist and lick method — which I think MOST people subscribe to — is the BEST way to experience all that an Oreo has to offer.

Perhaps the best known way to eat an Oreo is the classic ‘twist, lick, and dunk, and while fans might add their personal spin here or there, in our opinion it’s still the best way to eat America’s favorite cookie.

Marion Delgutte Saenen, Oreo’s U.S. marketing director

Just like black and white area classic color combination that just “goes” together, the chocolate and vanilla flavors of the Oreo are “congruent.”

By congruent, they just mean it is the most pleasing combination to your senses.

Congruence is difficult for scientists to measure, but in a 2016 study in the journal Chemical Senses, they note that chocolate’s rich, warm, slightly earthy smell fits well with sweet tastes, like vanilla.

Also, you’ve probably heard that sugar and fat make EVERYTHING taste better, and Oreos certainly have a lot of both.

The combination of fat and sugar does something that is probably not addition, but synergy. Instead of 1 + 1 = 2, it’s 1 + 1 = 4. Most scientists believe that fat plus sugar is super yummy.

Linda Flammer, a senior research associate at Philadelphia’s Monell Chemical Senses Center

You’ve probably also had the experience of opening a bag of Oreos, and the smell alone makes your mouth water — happens to me EVERY time.

This definitely adds to the appeal of the Oreo cookie!

So, next time you rip open a bag of Oreo cookies, keep in mind that the BEST way to eat those delicious round cookies is to twist them, lick the frosting, and then dunk that chocolate goodness in a cold glass of milk!

Now, if you are craving Oreo Cookies as much as I am right now, here are some of my favorites, and you can get them right from the Walmart website.
