Scientists Have Successfully Created A 'Vaccine' To Help People with Cat Allergies

So, scientists may have just changed my entire life. They have come up with a vaccine to help those that are allergic to those fluffy, puffy kitty cats!

People always ASSUME that I am a “Dog Person,” because I have always owned dogs. German Shepards, Dachshunds, Chihuahuas — I’ve owned them all!

But, the truth is, I LOVE my feline friends, too. I am just super allergic to kitty fur. Or, maybe it’s their dander. I don’t know. I just know I swell up, sneeze, and cry real tears uncontrollably whenever I have tried to own a cuddly kitten.

Well, turns out, I might be allergic to their spit.

Yep — you read that correctly. There is a certain protein in their saliva, and about 10% of the population has an allergy to this particularly pesky protein.

Scientists have realized this problem, and have come up with a vaccine. It isn’t for people, but for the cats, themselves.

Before you think, “OH NO! Poor kitty!” The cats involved in the study tolerated the vaccine well.

The vaccine was well tolerated and had no overt toxic effect. All cats induced a strong and sustained specific IgG antibody response. The induced anti–Fel d 1 antibodies were of high affinity and exhibited a strong neutralization ability tested both in vitro and in vivo. A reduction in the endogenous allergen level and a reduced allergenicity of tear samples, were observed.
