Somebody left a bicycle lying in the dark again, and after five seasons of Stranger Things, you’d think we’d know better than to follow it. Of course we’re going to follow it. Netflix just released the first teaser for Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure, a live-action prequel coming in 2028.
November 6 is Stranger Things Day because it’s the date Will Byers disappeared in 1983. Forty-three years later, you can spend the day watching the new footage from your couch, meet other fans in person, or contemplate whether you’re ready to keep a Tamagotchi alive upside down.
Watch the first teaser for Other Worlds
The 41-second teaser takes us to Nevada in 1955. That puts the new series decades before Will’s bike ride and even before the events of The First Shadow, the stage play set in 1959. Expect new heroes and villains. The Duffer brothers say casting is their next step.
There’s a familiar name connecting the two prequels. Kate Trefry, who wrote The First Shadow, is the showrunner for Other Worlds. Joe Wright, the director of Pride & Prejudice, will direct the first three episodes. Netflix’s announcement gives us the year, so save yourself the hunt for an exact premiere date.
The Season 5 bloopers are already up
If what you miss is the original Hawkins crew, start with Netflix’s Season 5 blooper reel. Somebody tries to say “Department of Education,” a scene goes sideways over which way something’s supposed to face, and Vecna gets heckled. Turns out even this crew occasionally needs someone to just say “action.”
For a longer watch tonight, both seasons of the animated Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 are streaming. For a snack to go with them, our waffle-inspired Eleven Frappuccino recipe has the custom Starbucks order written out.
Where fans can celebrate on November 6
Near Philadelphia, Netflix House at King of Prussia lists a free fan celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. Eastern. If you also want to do Stranger Things: The Immersive Experience, check its separate ticket listing on the same page.
In New York, at tonight’s Broadway performance of Stranger Things: The First Shadow, audience members can help color a giant Mind Flayer mural in the Marquis Theatre lobby. Stick around after the show for a Q&A with the cast. The Homecoming Week schedule has the details, including the take-home Sharpies available while supplies last.
Max’s headphones and an upside-down Tamagotchi
Sony gave Max’s Walkman look a USB-C plug. Its wired MDR-3R Stranger Things Edition has red and black earpads and a U.S. price of $79.99. Sony announced U.S. preorders on November 5 and named Sony, Netflix and Amazon as retailers. If that pair immediately made you think of putting on Kate Bush, same.
Meanwhile, Netflix Japan’s Stranger Things Tamagotchi flips the little pet’s screen upside down. Imagine feeding one of those things before you’ve had coffee. Bandai’s Japanese announcement lists November 6 for the start of preorders and February 27, 2027 for the Japanese release, at ¥3,300 including tax.
