Can I start a new story?

So, there’s a story in my head… a new one… and it really wants to be written… but I am not finished through the first round of edits yet on my FIRST book… part of me really wants to table it and come back to it later, and the obsessive compulsive part of me wants to finish it… so what do I do here?  Do I tell the story that begs me to write it, or do I follow through and finish a project?  This is such a tough decision for me.  I knew this would happen if I took too long on my first story, but that’s part of editing… you have to spend a long time on it!

I love writing, and I know this is what I am supposed to be when I grow up, but right now I need a little direction…

  1. I’d say definitely jot notes about this new story so that it doesn’t escape you. And if it really itches there’s no reason you couldn’t work on both projects simultaneously.
After all, we can read more than one book at once, right?

  2. I am a firm believer in writing what needs to be written! Your full will still be there in a month when this story is a draft! I can work through the chapters you’ve given me.
You may find, like I often do, that I have half a story, and so I go back to other things until I know more. But often, I have full novels, that I might have lost had I waited to write them.
    Just a thought.

  3. Is this a full novel in your head? You should at least hash out an outline before it goes into hiding. I’m a total book nerd and I want to be a writer when I grow up too.
