Great news for those that have Amazon Prime and love food delivery services!

Amazon has made a deal with the parent company of Grubhub to offer free delivery to Amazon Prime members!

With the new partnership, Amazon Prime members can get one year of free deliveries that are over $12 from Grubhub in 4,000 cities.

That means if you are an Amazon Prime member you can order from GrubHub with no delivery fee at all, as long as your order is a minimum of $12.

Amazon has tried to build its own third-party food marketplace for years and did not have much success. Today’s announcement looks like a potential partnership approach to establish itself back in the space.

Ralph Schackart, an analyst with William Blair, wrote in a research note Wednesday

The offer is good for 1 year, and if you decide to continue using GrubHub+ after the deal ends you will be charged a monthly service fee of $9.99 to continue.

The parent company of GrubHub is called Just Eat Takeaway and they have offered Amazon Prime the ability to buy a 2% stake in GrubHub.

We’re confident this offering will expose many new diners to the value of Grubhub+ while driving more business to our restaurant partners and drivers.

Grubhub CEO Adam DeWitt said in a statement

The pandemic helped food delivery services grow quickly here in the United States, and it looks like people are sticking with the convenience even if it does come with a fee.

While the rate of usage has slowed down recently, however, takeout orders are still huge and this partnership could increase the use of the delivery service again.
