The Matt Reeves Batman TV Spinoff About The Gotham City PD Is Coming To HBO Max
Batman lovers, there is a new spinoff about Gotham PD being developed by Matt Reeves for TV! It has been said that it will explore the corruption in the Gotham City Police Department.
Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire) is working together with Matt Reeves on this new series and you will be able to watch it on HBO Max.
This is an amazing opportunity, not only to expand the vision of the world I am creating in the film, but to explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a longform format can afford — and getting to work with the incredibly talented Terence Winter, who has written so insightfully and powerfully about worlds of crime and corruption, is an absolute dream.
Matt Reeves
You know, we started watching Gotham when it came out on Fox, but it was super hard for me to continue. This new show however seems like it will be darker, I mean Boardwalk Empire y’all! So, I am super interested in checking it out.
HBO Max announced today that it has given a series commitment to an original DC drama set in the Gotham City police department from The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves, Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, The Batman producer Dylan Clark, and Warner Bros. Television. The groundbreaking television series to be written by Winter is set in the world Reeves is creating for The Batman feature film and will build upon the motion picture’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, ultimately launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms.
Warner Bros. Press Release
Some people are wondering if it a good idea with today’s current climate on police officers and corruption. I think we need to remember that this television series is fiction. We can’t compare superheroes and villains to real life, right?
The series will be produced by Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho production company in association with Warner Bros. Television. Matt Reeves is also the man behind Warner Bros. Pictures “The Batman”, which is being released in October of 2021.
Now add in Terence Winter who is behind the creation of several of my favorites. Those include Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos! His skills and style are what makes me believe this will be an amazing new series. What do you think?
