People Are Painting Pinecones to Look Like Lilacs And They Are Stunning
I enjoy picking up a bouquet from time to time to have on the table, but I don’t like that they will wither away and die.
I was scrolling through Facebook and I stopped on what I thought were some pretty Lilac flowers until I looked at the photo closer.
The poster of the photo was actually showing off some pinecones that had been painted to look like Lilacs. Brilliant!
This is such an easy project and one that you could let the kids work with you on.
Here’s how you can prepare your pinecones to be painted:
- First, you will want to clean off all of the dust and dirt, you can do this with a small brush. It’s also suggested that you soak the pinecones in a mixture of white vinegar and warm water.
- Secondly, you need to dry the pinecones. Set them on some paper towels to absorb some of the water. Then line a baking sheet with parchment paper and bake the pinecones at 200 degrees for about 90 minutes to make sure mold and bugs are killed off.
Once dry you can paint your pinecones with acrylic paints to get the desired look. Then you’ll want to seal them with a clear acrylic sealer, or you can use Mod Podge.
When your pinecones have been painted, sealed, and dried, you can then use a hot glue gun to attach them to wooden skewers.
Place your new “flowers” in a vase and add some artificial leaves and anything else that makes them pretty.
Do you think you will make this project?
