This Adorable Lab Has Vitiligo and Proves Being Different Is Awesome
It’s no secret that I’m a huge dog lover. Most of my business is photographing dogs. I also love uniqueness. Being different is awesome in my eyes!
All the weird quirks people have make them special and different. Not so boring. We all have quirks. Animals are no different.
Meet Blaze! Blaze lives in Finland and started out as a normal-looking black labrador retriever.
Labradors come in Black, Chocolate, and Yellow. Occasionally you will see a Silver lab, but that is considered a genetic issue. Sometimes they are called Black Dilute. They are beautiful though!
Blaze is ten years old, but last year he started changing a bit. It all started as a small white patch on his ear.
As the months went by, the patch grew larger. This beautiful black lab was changing! They totally thought the change was due to aging.
At first, we thought it was just aging, but the white color started to come more and more month by month. Other dogs in the same litter have remained one color.

Eventually nearly his whole face was white and then the fur on his body was also changing. He was turning white and that is when they realized that Blaze had Vitiligo.
Vitiligo is a condition that humans have, but cats and dogs can also have it. When you have this condition, the skin loses the pigments. It can come along with other issues, but Blaze seems to be perfectly healthy!
Vitiligo is just a cosmetic thing. Blaze is a good example of how difference is beautiful.
