As much as I want to laugh at the fact a spider caused a car crash, I can’t.

Honestly, this could have completely been me and in fact, I’ve been in this situation before. Luckily, I had someone else in the car with me so they could tend to the spider and I could focus on not crashing.

This lady on the other hand, was not as lucky…

Yes, This Woman Crashed Her Car After Seeing A Spider While Driving!

Luckily, the only injury reported was that she hurt her leg (and also totaled her car).

The Town of Cairo New York Police Department responded to the scene and took pictures of the incident and used this as a teaching lesson on Facebook saying:

Thank you again for the help
Cairo Fire, Cairo Ambulance, Greene County Medics and Greene County Sheriffs.
After investigating today’s crash on Silver Spur Road we feel it necessary to bring up a contributing factor that is not covered too often. It is believed that the operator of the vehicle noticed a SPIDER in the drivers area with her as she was driving. The operator panicked and crashed suffering a leg injury from the crash. We know that it is easier for some drivers than others but PLEASE, try to teach new drivers and yourselves to overcome the fear and pull over to a safe place. Lives depend on it.

Of course, the comments are filled with a mixture of feelings.

Comments such as:

Or even the lack of understanding the fear of spiders:

And of course, comments asking the most important question of all…

Personally, I feel for this lady. My fear of spiders is enough to give me a heart attack one day.

Sure, they are probably more scared of me than I am of them but it doesn’t change the fact that I am TERRIFIED of them!

Now that we know the lady is okay, I can’t help but wonder if her car insurance covers “accident caused by fear of spiders?”…

And now, I’ve got to go shower because I feel like I have creepy crawlies on me! AHHH.

  1. As an insurance adjuster for 17 years I can tell you if she had full coverage(collision and comprehensive) then yes insurance paid for the car less her deductible. The whole point of comprehensive coverage is to cover the driver in any circumstances. Even if it’s determined that the crash is her fault

  2. To those that don’t understand… I guess you aren’t allergic to spider bites AND they are such insidious little creatures. And they make no noises (like bees, etc).
