News just broke that actor Carl Weathers has died. He was 76 years old.

Carl Weathers is best known for his work as an actor and former professional football player.

In the realm of acting, he gained fame for his roles in a variety of films and television series. Among his most notable roles are:

Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” series: Weathers portrayed Apollo Creed, the charismatic and formidable boxing champion who becomes both Rocky Balboa’s rival and friend across the “Rocky” film series. This role catapulted him to fame and is often what he is most associated with.

He was teaching golf in Happy Gilmore.

Dillon in “Predator”: In the 1987 science fiction action film “Predator,” Weathers played the role of Dillon, a CIA operative who finds himself battling an alien hunter in the jungles of Central America alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character.

Action Jackson in “Action Jackson”: Weathers starred in the title role of this 1988 action film, playing a Detroit police sergeant who goes up against a corrupt businessman.

Television roles: Beyond his work in film, Carl Weathers has also been involved in various television projects, including a role in the TV series “Arrested Development” as a fictionalized version of himself and as Greef Karga in the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.”

Before his acting career, Carl Weathers played professional football as a linebacker, first in college at San Diego State University and then briefly in the professional leagues with teams like the Oakland Raiders of the NFL and the B.C. According to reports, Carl Weathers died Thursday, February 1, 2024.

The news was confirmed by his manager, Matt Luber, and his family issued a statement saying he died “peacefully in his sleep.”​

He was just 76 years old. RIP.
