Well, this is a bit weird.

I had a deep loathing for that big purple dinosaur that all the kids were obsessed with.

Barney.

Just the name grates on my nerves in a very uncomfortable way.

So, I wasn’t at all excited when I found out that Mattel is turning this big purple monstrosity into a live-action movie.

What makes this even more bizarre is that the forthcoming Barney movie isn’t going to be geared towards kids.

I mean, what?

It is being described as a “surrealistic” type of film, and will be geared towards an adult audience.

I guess they are taking Barney back to the kids — which are now grown up — that loved him so much.

We’re leaning into the millennial angst of the property rather than fine-tuning this for kids.

I can’t even imagine. If it wasn’t Barney, I’d be a bit intrigued.

Taking a beloved toy — basically — from our childhood, and making him a grownup character just might work.

It’s really a play for adults. Not that it’s R-rated, but it’ll focus on some of the trials and tribulations of being thirtysomething, growing up with Barney—just the level of disenchantment within the generation.

The only other thing we know about this Barney film is that it will star Oscar-winner Daniel Kaluuya, who you know from Nope, Black Panther, and Get Out.

We’ll let you know as soon as any more news about this Barney film is released.

What do you think? Are you excited for this adult-focused Barney movie?
