A Delivery Driver Left A Snarky Note About Not Tipping As A Reminder That He Doesn’t Work For Free And I’m Not Sure How I Feel

I’m really not sure how to feel about this.

On one hand, if you have something delivered to your house, you should always tip the delivery driver. Bottom line.

But, is it really okay for them to leave behind snarky notes reminding people that they don’t work for free?

I’ll let you decide.

A DoorDash driver, who goes by the name of @frenchfrythug set the world of TikTok ablaze when he posted a video of a note he left for a “stingy” tipper.

Now, his account has all of a sudden been set to “private,” so you can’t see the entire video.

But, we’ll just break it down for you.

Mr. @frenchfythug delivered a customer’s order, but they decided not to tip.

He then proceeded to leave them a note that read: “If you can’t afford to tip then you should go pick it up yourself. Who do you think you are to order food and have someone come and bring it to your door for FREE? FOR FREE?”

If his goal was to make the customer hella mad, he probably succeeded.

I highly doubt he is going to change the mind of any would-be tipper with a note like that.

I understand the frustration on the part of the DoorDash driver, as part of his salary depends on that tip.

But, he also doesn’t realize there may be another side to the story.

You never actually know what might have been going on with the customer.

Maybe they simply “forgot” to tip, in which case a NICE note would have maybe been understandable.

Sure, it could have been some curmudgeon, who doesn’t believe in tipping — in which case, a note isn’t going to do anyone any good.

But, what if this was an elderly person on social security, who couldn’t get out of the house, and couldn’t afford the tip?

Should the driver just go on about his day, go on to the next delivery, and let it go?

I mean, he gets a little bit of a kickback from DoorDash for making the delivery in the first place. The tip is just extra icing on top of his pay, right?

According to Insider, this driver had delivered to this address before. ‘”The customer addressed in his video was a ‘habitual no tipper’ and that he posted the video to ‘make a statement.'”

The TikTok video posted by @frenchfythug’s contained the actual note he left for the customer.

If you can’t afford to tip then you should go pick it up yourself. Who do you think you are to order food and have someone come and bring it to your door for FREE? FOR FREE?

I just drove my personal car to your house to deliver your food for fun? Naw not today … you can right your wrongs below.

@frenchfythug

He then gave a VENMO address where the person could send in their “tip.”

The video was quick to garner much attention, with people either agreeing with the driver or defending the actions of the person who didn’t tip.

Here’s the other rub. DoorDash drivers can choose whether they are going to accept or decline a delivery.

He chose to accept this delivery, and went into the deal with the premeditated idea of leaving the note.

I mean, he could have just turned down the delivery, and went on his merry way.

But, he wanted to leave this snarky note and post his video as a “learning lesson for everyone.”

What are YOUR thoughts on this situation? Is it okay not to tip? Is it okay for delivery drivers to leave sarcastic notes basically begging for tips?

  1. Having worked as a pizza delivery driver in my younger years, I can totally relate to how the guy must feel. Regardless, he was out of line with that letter. One, you can accept or decline orders. Two, tipping is optional and customers are by no means obligated to tip, although it is customary. When one customer doesn’t tip, it’s best to let it go and move onto the ninety-nine others that will tip. He should have just left it alone but now DoorDash is probably going to give him boot because of it going viral.
