Here’s How You Make The Rice Paper Candy Straws Everyone is Talking About
Oh my sweet candy craving. These look ridiculously tasty!!
You can make candy straws out of rice paper, fruit, and sugar, and it’s totally easy.
These would be so great as an after school snack for the kiddos!
They would even make a fun project to get the kids involved in making their food, and trying new flavors.
How To Make Rice Paper Candy Straws
The first thing you’re going to have to do is get a package of rice paper from the store.
Rice paper is firm in the package, so don’t expect something pliable and soft.
Now, you want to hit the produce section, and pick out all the tasty fruit that looks delish.
Raspberries, dragon fruit, kiwi, strawberries, mango, banana — softer fruit works better, but you do you.
Wash up all your fruit, and cut it into tiny pieces — about dime sized should do it.
Now, you want to prep your rice paper.
Get a plate or bowl, and put warm water in it. The water should kind of pool up — not too deep.
Squeeze half a lime into the water.
Take your single piece of rice paper in the warm water, and kind of swish it around.
It should get soft in about 8 to 10 seconds. TAKE IT OUT of the water at this point. You don’t want to over soak it.
Place the rice paper down flat onto your cutting board, and cut it in half with a knife.
Now, take some fruit, and put it in a long line on one half of the flaccid rice paper.
Tuck in the ends of the rice paper, and roll it up over the fruit.
Make sure as you set the rolls to the side, they don’t touch. They are super sticky, and will tear apart.
This is the super tasty part. You need to make the sugar you are going to roll the candy straws in.
There are several options here, all of which are mixed with sugar.
Kool-Aid and sugar will make them sour. Crushed, freeze-dried fruit and sugar will make them sweet and delicious. Tajin and sugar will make them a bit spicy
(Put come Chamoy in with mango before you roll it up in rice paper. Then roll it in Tajin and sugar. Oh. My. Gosh. You’re Welcome.)
Now, all that’s left to do is eat them.
Good, right?!?
