Netflix’s New Docuseries ‘The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez’ Is The Hardest Thing I’ve Ever Watched
I have no words. The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez is absolutely the hardest series I have ever watched, hands down.
This six-part docuseries is available right now on Netflix.
It is about Gabriel Fernandez, a little 8-year-old boy in Los Angeles, who was tortured and beaten to death at the hand of his mother and her fiance.
I’m warning you, I cried, A LOT during this docuseries. It is very emotionally difficult to get through.
Not only was he tortured over an 8-month period, and eventually beaten so bad his skull was like Rice Krispies*, he completely fell through the CPS cracks.
Social workers had been out to the residents on MULTIPLE occasions, but nothing was ever done.
The mother told the social workers that some kids at school beat him up, causing all his bruises and missing teeth — and the social workers did nothing.
The sheriff paid a visit, the week before his death, to the residents. Nothing was done.
Y’all. They beat him with a bat. They made him eat cat litter, they gagged him with a sock, handcuffed him, and made him stay in a little cupboard. They shot him with a bb gun, and burned him with cigarettes.
All of this repeatedly happened over an 8-month period.
Nobody did anything to stop it.
There was so much dried blood spattered around the apartment, the detectives RAN OUT of the markers that are meant to show where the blood was located. And, it all matched Gabriel’s DNA.
This is a must watch, to educate ourselves on child abuse, and to understand what some children go through.
I am warning you, however. It’s difficult. Do not watch it with children in the room.
