Ch-ch-changes…(Turn and face the strange)…Ch-ch-changes…

Does anyone else think of that song when you hear Facebook is making changes again? No? Just me.

Well, it is true – Facebook is updating their terms of service and it’s worth knowing about!

Effective October 01, 2020, Facebook is making changes to their terms of service and if you spend a good amount of time on Facebook, you need to know what it means.

Specifically, when it comes to the content you post, share or interact with.

Facebook seems to be updating their terms to be able to remove or restrict access to your content should you violate any community standards.

I personally always thought Facebook did this anyways BUT they have some new information surrounding it:

We want people to use Facebook to express themselves and to share content that is important to them, but not at the expense of the safety and well-being of others or the integrity of our community. You therefore agree not to engage in the conduct described below (or to facilitate or support others in doing so):

You may not use our Products to do or share anything:

That violates these Terms, our Community Standards, and other terms and policies that apply to your use of Facebook.

That is unlawful, misleading, discriminatory or fraudulent.

That infringes or violates someone else’s rights, including their intellectual property rights.

Now, I think the important part here is “unlawful, misleading, discriminatory or fraudulent” because there seems to be a lot of that sort of stuff going around especially right now.

The bottom line is – Facebook wants to make Facebook a better place and it seems like these new updates can do just that.

Again, I think Facebook has always done this but it seems like they plan to crack down on it more.

So, what happens if you violate these terms? Well, Facebook says:

We can remove or restrict access to content that is in violation of these provisions.

They can also completely delete your profile and ban you from Facebook entirely.

Basically, just don’t share misleading, fraudulent or discriminatory content and you should be just fine.

Be nice. Be Happy. And make Facebook the type of place everyone wants to go and hang out on. Isn’t that what made us love Facebook in the first place?

I won’t lie, I am looking forward to these changes because I’ve found myself not wanting to be on Facebook as much lately with all the negativity and misinformation on there.

So, I think this will be a good change for everyone!

Oh and in case you’re wondering, you can read the entire Facebook terms of service here.
