If you have an iPhone, you just went through the iOS 17 update — whether you wanted to or not.

There are a ton of good things about the update — like being able to “catch-up” in the Messages feature.

But, there is also one little addition which has police warning parents to beware.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office located in Tennessee posted the caution as well as the Middletown Division of Police in Ohio, the Halifax Police Department in Virginia and the Village of Mount Pleasant Department in Wisconsin.

What am I talking about?

The newest feature allows users to easily share their contact information with each other.

All you have to do is hold the devices — iPhone or Apple Watch — close together, and voila!! Your contact info is now transferred to their Apple device.

This sounds like a great idea on the surface, right?

You can quickly add contacts to your list without having to go into your phone and type everything out.

BUT, this NameDrop feature is not such a great idea if you have children with phones.

I’m sure you can guess why, but here you go…

Your child’s information can be transferred, without their knowledge, to anyone with an Apple Watch or iPhone who is in their general vicinity.

This just screams, WATCH OUT FOR PREDATORS!

Now, this NameDrop feature is automatically turned on and active once your phone updates.

There is a way to manually turn off the NameDrop feature, and I’ve already fixed my daughter’s phone.

How To Turn Off The NameDrop Feature On The iPhone

Start out by going to the “Settings” icon on your iPhone.

Now, you want to click on “General.”

From here, you are going to click on “AirDrop.”

You will notice the “Bringing Devices Together” option is green.

Here is where you are going to toggle the button to turn it off.

That’s it!! You are now protected against accidentally giving your info out to everyone in town.
