Here’s What To Do if TikTok Gets Banned
TikTok may very well get banned and it’s certainly something NOBODY wants to hear.
I’ll be honest, I feel like I’ve learned more life advice and information off TikTok than any other social media channel, ever.
And yes, I get it – not everything you see on the internet is true but the info I have found and fact checked, is and I’m forever grateful for that app.
With that being said, you probably know by now that the US government wants to ban TikTok IF the app’s Chinese owners don’t sell it.
While The Biden Administration claims it’s because of personal data/security issues, I don’t believe that to be entirely true. But this isn’t about my opinion.
Anyways, if you are a person that will be crushed or heartbroken (or perhaps make a living off TikTok) if it ends up being banned, there is something you can do.
Now, I want to premise this by saying, this is NO LEGAL ADVICE and I am not a lawyer. So, understand, you need to ensure wherever you are, this is legal in your city/state.
What To Do if TikTok Gets Banned
An engineer on TikTok that goes by @thousand.hobbies breaks down several different things you can do.
The first thing she says you can do is, download the TikTok app off of Canada’s or Mexico’s app store. You will need to connect to a VPN and set the location to that country in order to do this.
Or she says you can download the APK file which is the same app file you’re downloading from the app store but you don’t download it from the app store.
Basically, the same TikTok app but it’s a different source you are downloading it from.
While she says you can already do this on an Android, she says there is some additional steps you’d need to do in order to this on an iPhone including jailbreaking your phone.
The big one she continues to stress is a VPN and if you’re not familiar with it, it is a virtual private network.
This allows you to use and create an encrypted tunnel for your data, protect your online identity by hiding your IP address, and allows you to use public Wi-Fi hotspots safely.
Thus, allowing you to use TikTok through this private network without anyone knowing.
Honestly, all of these options pretty much are outside of my expertise but if you speak this lingo, or spend the time to learn it, these may be some great options for you.
Also, keep in mind, you’ll want to ensure that any of these options are legal in your area. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble!!

- Start working on moving things to another platform such as Facebook Reels and YouTube Short Stories.
- Ask your followers to follow you on other social media accounts.
- Move your ad spend to other social media platforms and adjust your advertising strategy.
