‘Dollar Tree’ Will No Longer Just Cost a Dollar
Dollar Tree changed everything behind how far $1 could go and to this day, I am avid dollar store shopper because I cannot even tell you how many amazing things you can find for $1!
I guess I should say “could find” because ‘Dollar Tree’ Will No Longer Just Cost a Dollar and people don’t seem to be happy about the change!

‘Dollar Tree’ Will No Longer Just Cost a Dollar
Earlier this year Dollar Tree decided to comply with angry investors and test out select stores with offering products that cost more than a dollar. These test stores were referred to as ‘Dollar Tree Plus’.
The company aimed to see at these test stores how its economically sensitive customers responded to the higher price point items.
The word is, Dollar Tree bought out Family Dollar so they could combine the two brands and two pricing structures.
Apparently, it went well because investors were so satisfied with the results, the company is now moving from test phase to a wider rollout at 100 stores.
Named “Dollar Tree Plus!”, the initiative will feature products across many categories that are priced above $1. Dollar Tree management was quick to point out in its Thursday earnings release it was not raising prices on its assortment. Instead, “Dollar Tree Plus!” would be additive to the sales floor.
“With its ‘Everything’s a Dollar’ model, Dollar Tree has remained one of the most unique, differentiated and defensible brand concepts in all of value retail. However, we have always been a ‘test-and-learn’ organization that is committed to evaluating all opportunities to deliver great value for our customers while driving long-term value creation. During this test, we look forward to measuring and assessing the initial results and understanding if the introduction of multiple price points across a broader set of stores is in the best interests of our customers, Company and shareholders,”
Dollar Tree CEO Gary Philbin said in a statement.
But how are people really feeling about this?
I looked at Twitter and people are confused. After all, it is Dollar Tree and even a name change can’t fool anyone.
And the most confusing part is that even the Dollar Tree “about us” page talks about being only $1 and how they hear the following reactions all the time:
“I can’t believe this cool item I just found at Dollar Tree!” AND…
“I can’t believe it’s only $1.00!”
Stores still have signs up that say “Everything’s $1.00” so could this be means for false advertising? I don’t see this going well for people that may not notice the small banner placed near the front of the store…
Nonetheless, you might be able to score some awesome deals on name brand items for your home that are still greatly priced.
It’ll be interesting to see how this goes and even more interesting to see if these price increases come to a store near me.

Yes I see that they are keeping the normal items for a dollar, but them adding more expensive items they have to take out $1 items to make room it’s turning into a five below it’s bull.
All items costing only a dollar is the reason most of us go into this store . It’s called Dollar Tree and says EVERYTHING is One Dollar. WHEN you go into the store, you find great items that only cost $1 and at others stores cost more for the same item! Don ‘t mess with this unique store. A lot of people live on fixed incomes and need a store like this.
They are not raising prices on the normal Dollar Tree items they are bringing in a new line of product that will be higher priced . The prices will be $ 1 $3 and $5 .. Please read the article !!!

I’ve been to these stores. They’ve just taken a crap ton of shelf space from the $1 items (which I can no longer find elsewhere in the store) to make room. Some items I used to buy there. Other, once $1 items have now been re-priced and shifted into the $3 and $5 aisle. It’s BS.

I don’t see good and I enjoyed going in Dollar tree and not having to see prices, just pick out 5 things and I know it will be 5$ plus taxes. Now I can’t do that.
For the love of God…. READ people!! $1 items will stay $1. They are just getting more pricier/name brand items that will be a little more. So nothing changes for you if you only go for $1 items then only pick those up!!!!!!

This isn’t completely true. I’ve seen some items re-priced and put into the “Plus” aisles.
@Mary, you’re wrong. They changed their $1 items to $1.25.
Many retail stores are suffering due to the Pandemic..Dollar tree is not one of them. They made a killing.!!

I fully agree. if i wanted things that were a little priceier than $1 i could go to other discount stores. I mostly go to dollar tree for candy and gift bags and wrapping paper.
Well if nothing over $5 then it’s a five below. How did they buy out family dollar yet they just built a new one in town. Idk if this is legit but they should have to redo their store signage.
Agreed they can’t call them selves the dollar store anymore if the prices are going to be over a dollar. It is fake advertising.
Sounds like competition for a Five beliw stire and tgeir quality is not as good as Dollar Tree..
Just like everyone else this business wants more & more money. So guess I’ll take my cash back to Walmart. I enjoyed being able to go there and buy things I needed at a good price but if I am going to have to pay more then I might as well just do all my shopping in one spot. It won’t be Dollar Tree Plus.

I hate dollar general. Its pure crap! So why combine them? DT is great you can give kids a dive and they live to fill the bag. Guess its one more store i wont have to go to. I just get it all at walmart

I hate a walmart…And thats a strong word for me..Workers are rude,stores are barley stocked and the cashiers….thats a different story..I shop Dollar tree ALOT .Found what I need ther when walmart didnt have it…Please dont change the Dollar Tree .Those stores have SOOO much business and the selections are great!!!
From what’s been reported it would seem Dollar Tree is enhancing it’s product line with items that cost more. If it said anywhere they were raising prices on their dollar items I did not see that. I shop Dollar Tree and I’m reserving any negative thoughts about this until I see what really happens. This just might be a good thing for those stores that will be changing to Dollar Tree Plus.

They’re gonna have displays of things that will cost more in the front Displays which I’m pretty sure it still won’t cost extremely a lot if you don’t want to buy them items don’t the store will say dollar tree plus so that’s not being false either
If I wanted to shop for items over a $1 then I’d go to family dollar but I don’t. I won’t shop there anymore if they change. I will go to a different store to do one stop shopping instead of go out of my way to stop a $tree. I stopped going to five below because they aren’t $5 and below anymore. What’s the point of going if the whole concept changes?
Dollar tree stores in my area are a MESS !
Sales floors are cluttered with boxes , merchandise everywhere but the shelves .
They are nasty , junky , and there cashier’s are rude .
Dollar tree is going down hill , so they have to raise prices ? They should give man power hours and pay better so the stores can get cleaned , recovered and stocked !!
I shop at Dollar Tree, because of everything being a $1. I think that Family Dollar and General Dollar stores are fake and a rip off. I guess if Dollar Tree is going to raise their prices I might as well go and shop at Wal-Mart and just skip going to Dollar Tree.

I use the dallor tree to buy thing I can’t other wise afford. Such as toilet paper and some of the food items cooking pans things I need that I can’t afford to buy otherwise.. I wouldn’t have coming utensils or silverware if it wasn’t for Dallor tree. Process for up might not even be with driving there since Walmart is right next door to me. I love DT. It’s the best place to get things I need because being a single mom is tough and bank breaking…
I shop a lot at dollar stores I’ve done most of my gift baskets fillers from the dollar stores. I guess I won’t be able to shop there anymore and be able to save. Very sad
Well that’s it for me and my family no more Dollar store visits.
I have spent tons in the dollar tree as I am a crafter and sewer and there is a lot of stuff I have found for s DOLLAR since I’m on a fixed income to help arrange my craft room and new I could get what I needed from the Dollar Store Why do you have to raise your prices now I am sad I won’t be able to afford to arrange any room now with the help of the Dollar Store.

i cant stand the dollar general and other fake dollar stores .loved dollar tree .especially when i can take my kids and say you can pick one item and imonly out a buck each what am i to do with 5.00 items they will pick ill be walking home with no gas money left .not good

I am upset that Dollar tree is raising prices. When you have so many people on a fixed income and like the fact you can go to a store that stuff only a dollar. But now the company wants to change the prices. Hell Dollar general cost almost as much as Walmart. Hell I guess I’ll not be able to save money on anything. I feel for people on fixed income and everyone else who trying to safe a little.
I’m upset too! The people on fixed income can’t live on the little bit of money we are getting now.
