It is making me so dang sad to read of all of the businesses that are closing down. From small local businesses to large well-known businesses across the entire country. Now Dunkin’ is closing 450 stores by the end of the year.

Thankfully, your favorite stand-alone Dunkin’ locations are safe right now. The 450 locations that are closing are located in Speedway gas stations. This is due to a termination of the Dunkin’ partnership with Hess, which has owned Speedway gas stations since 2014.

These points of distribution are lower volume units, in total representing less than 0.5% of Dunkin’ U.S. annual systemwide sales in 2019.

Dunkin’ said in a statement that this will allow them to support the stand-alone stores better.

By exiting these sites, we are confident we will be better positioned to serve these trade areas with Dunkin’s newest Next Generation restaurant design that offers a broader menu and modern experience. We also remain committed to growing our presence in gas and convenience locations, as well as other non-traditional locations, including airports, universities, travel plazas and military installations.

Most of the Speedway gas station Dunkin’ locations are still open as of this time. Also, this is mostly an east coast thing. Personally I don’t think I have ever seen a Dunkin’ location in a gas station, have you?

Either way, at least we can count on our traditional Dunkin’ stores to be around for right now and for that, I am grateful.
