Elon Musk Is Going To Start Letting People Advertise In Space And I Have So Many Questions

Elon Musk (SpaceX) is teaming up with a Canadian company to launch a satellite that would beam advertisements into space.

I must say. I don’t understand it. Why would you want to beam advertisements into space? So the little green Martian men will see them?

This truly seems like a bunch of space clutter to me — but then, what do I know.

Anyone can purchase space on this satellite advertisement billboard of sorts. but you can only pay using cryptocurrency.

The cryptocurrency will pay for tokens. The tokens are how you get space on the advertisement board — what your ad will look like, and how long your ad stays up.

With the Beta and Rho tokens, people can decide where to place their pixel. The Gamma and Kappa tokens allow people to control what their pixel will look like, while the XI token determines how long it will last for.

Pretty much ANYBODY can buy space to throw an ad up into space. Businesses, artists, and even just your normal average person who is interested will be able to get space and design an ad.

The satellite is going to be known as the CubeSat, and they are planning to launch it later this year.

Once up there, the satellite will beam images — via a selfie stick — of the space billboard directly to YouTube. Then, you can watch advertisements in space anytime your little heart desires.

I’m trying to achieve something that can democratize access to space and allow for decentralized participation.

There is no word yet on how much these tokens to buy advertisement space on the satellite will cost. I’m kind of interested to find out how much this endeavor is going to cost individuals and businesses.

I’m sure this venture will be a huge success, and I will soon find out what all the hype is about. But, for now, I don’t get it. Can someone explain the draw to me?
