Twelve years ago, Emily Blunt made an appearance on the U.K.’s Jonathan Ross Show, and now she is getting backlash for running her mouth a bit too much.

I’m not sure if she was nervous, or maybe she just wasn’t thinking, but she made a rather insensitive statement about a Chili’s server.

Emily was telling a story about how she learned a southern accent for a film she was working on, and somehow the subject of her server at Chili’s came up.

Rather unprompted, she pauses her story to tell everyone that her server was “enormous.”

Well the girl who was serving me was enormous.

She recently rewatched the clip, and was appalled that she had made such a reference about her server.

Emily quickly made a statement, getting in front of the situation, before the harsh clip starts circling social media once again.

I just need to address this head on as my jaw was on the floor watching this clip from 12-years ago. — I’m appalled that I would say something so insensitive, hurtful, and unrelated to whatever story I was trying to tell on a talk show.

I’ve always considered myself someone who wouldn’t dream of upsetting anyone so whatever possessed me to say anything like this in that moment is unrecognizable to me or anything I stand for. — And yet it happened, and I said it and I’m so sorry for any hurt caused. I was absolutely old enough to know better

Now, I’m a bit on the fluffy side, so I’m a part of America that has a right to be offended by the remark.

BUT, I harbor no ill will toward Emily.

Sometimes we say really stupid things. Everyone makes mistakes.

I think harping on the interview, and bringing it all back up is more damaging and hurtful than the initial remarks.
