  1. I was wondering if you could freeze the batter in portions before frying?

  2. How are you cutting your onions? My patties, while delish, didn’t look like the pictures?

    1. @Shirley, what temp and time did you use for air frying?

  3. I cut this recipe in half just to try it. I wish I’d doubled it instead! I decreased the salt, based on the reviews, but feel I could have used the entire amount called for. I used olive oil for frying. Light, crispy and delicious! For dipping, I tried ranch dressing, which was good, ketchup, which was ok. Then, I mixed up some “pink sauce” like what a Venezuelan restaurant near me serves with their arepas. That is my sauce of choice. (Mayo with some ketchup mixed in.)

  4. Made these last night. Really good! I used Tony C Cajan seasoning instead of salt. Also used Vidalia sweet onions.

  5. It was good. Too much salt a teaspoon is more than enough or less.

  6. Amazing! I used rice flour instead of corn flour and halved the salt. I have made them twice already and the second time added a thinly sliced chili. Family love them!

  7. I will make these today. I will try putting in a muffin tin. Hope it works. Will add a little oil in bottom of the tin.

    1. @Jeannie, This is a good idea to corral these little guys, keep
Their shape and decrease the oil!

  8. Just tried this recipe. Turned out well, everyone loved them. I added bacon.

  9. This was terrible. It looked nothing like the photo, which looks cornmeal-based. Plus they never cooked all the way through.

  10. Made these last night, and really enjoyed them. It does taste similar to an onion ring, but less greasy. I halved the sugar, and they had just the right amount of sweetness. May have to make these again tonight!

  11. Do you think these would be great in an air fryer? I would love to try them in mine!

  12. Cut the salt! I will Only use 1/2 tsp salt next time. Otherwise they were delicious.

    1. I made these in a panini press, because I am just rubbish at pan frying.
They were then wider/thinner, but still delicious.
I would hope that the concept would translate to a waffle iron.
These have come into regular rotation in our household!

    2. I made these tonight and I think they would actually be better cooked in a waffle iron. Great idea !!!

  13. I’m making these today but just wondered if I can make ahead and re-heat?

  14. I made these tonight and they were the favorite item on our plates! So Very Good! I used about 2 cups of sweet onion and 1/2 cup of cooking onion. To the dry mix I added a little garlic powder, dry basil, and paprika. I only use about 1/4″ of oil and add as needed (try not to use too much in my cooking). They came out perfect. I didn’t cut the onions too small because I wanted to feel them crunch and get that good onion ring texture. They were perfect. Will make these again–no more onion rings! Thanks for the recipe!

  15. Would these work in an air fryer? They sound really good. We’ve done mashed potato patties that are very similar.

  16. Good Golly, Miss Molly!! These are outstanding! I used sweet onions and subbed in about 1/2 c green onion. I, too, was concerned that they wouldn’t cook through but they were done just right. Since the batter is thick, do be sure to spread them out a little bit. The boyfriend RAVED about them, and now we are coming up with add-ins for next time: bacon/blue cheese, jalapeños/cheese, ham/cheese, potato/cheeese (yes we like cheese!), gruyere/ham – oh, the possibilities! Agree on backing off the salt a bit and probably the sugar, too.

  17. Super! Made them 3 times!! Here’s what I did. I only used 1 tsp. Salt, and a pinch of sugar. I reduced onion to 2 cups and added two microwaved small potatoes skinned, cooled, and grated. Super, super!! Rationale: original recipe too salty, sugary, and onion-y. Potato mellowed our onion. Everyone loved them!!!

  18. The best thing I have bad in a long time!!!!!!
I also made them with garlic they were alright.
Then I tried hot sauce and they were very tasty
I left out the salt in all three tries on kinda of salt free diet.

  19. A+ These were so good! We all liked them!! Such a great idea too. The flavor was perfect!
I used just 1 tsp of salt and I fried them in avocado oil. Turned out wonderful! Easy, quick, and homemade!!! Thank you so much for this recipe!

  20. Just made these.. after I chopped the onions I sautéed them because I was afraid they would be raw. Then I made the batter and added the onions.
I would only add one teaspoon of salt and less sugar. I found these way to salty but other wise dee-lish
