I mean, has he been living under a rock?

This guy went to the Colosseum in Rome, and actually etched a love note into the wall. Like, he defaced ancient history.

His defense for desecrating the nearly 2,000-year-old historical amphitheater?

He claims he didn’t know it was ancient.

Mmmm Kkkkay.

The dude is 27 years old. He had never heard that it was ancient? Like, he was on tour there. He didn’t get it?

This genius used a key to etch Ivan+Hayley 23, much to the horror of Italian officials.

He was smart enough to get an attorney, who shared snippets of a letter he drafted about the incident.

According to Today, “the letter was addressed to the mayor of Rome, the City Council and city magistrates.”

I admit with deepest embarrassment that it was only after what regrettably happened that I learned of the antiquity of the monument.

My heartfelt apologies to the Italians and to the whole world for the damage done to an asset that is, in fact, the heritage of all humanity.

I am also aware that similar conduct in my country would have resulted in much more serious consequences

For this reason I accept all responsibility and will make sincere and concrete efforts to redeem myself and make up for the mistake I have made.

According to The Associated Press, vandalizing the Colosseum “carries fines up up to $15,000 and five years in prison,” so he could get in some pretty big trouble here.

Apparently, a plea bargain request has been requested, and “the boy will certainly take advantage of the suspended sentence.”

Let this be a lesson to you. Don’t deface things. Like, anything. Just don’t do it.
